Spring 2016

Information Session

Our Information Session went off without a hitch. It was great seeing so many new faces and meeting so many students interested in the MIS/IT field. Thank you for allowing us to show you all what our awesome organization can offer you.

4IT Information Session

There was a excellent turnout at the 4IT Information Session last week. The room was filled and everyone enjoyed a very informative presentation given by Alexander Freund (President), Raymond Mobayed (CEO), and a recently graduated MISA Alumnus Jackson Bailey. Thank you to all who attended this event, we look forward to many more professional events this semester.

Data Meaning Information Session

The Data Meaning Information Session was a rousing success!  Fabio Moreira, and Marvin Mayorga gave an invigorating session highlighting the wonderful opportunities at Data Meaning and explaining Data Meaning's goals and mission.  Students were thoroughly enthralled as they soaked up the information presented to them by Data Meaning's Co-Founder/Managing Partner, and their Education Coordinator/Associate Consultant.

Aon Hewitt Information Session

Thank you to everyone who made it to the AON Hewitt information session. We had a great time learning what makes AON's work culture and hiring programs so awesome. Don't forget to check them out at this week's FAU Technical Career Fair.

South Florida Code Camp

MISA members had a great time at the South Florida Code Camp even last Saturday. The code camp was an amazing opportunity to meet those from all around South Florida interested in technology as well as to expand their technical knowledge about upcoming products and releases that will influence IT careers of all types. We will definitely be attending again next year.

Cracking The Code

Spring Semester Social

MISA's Semester Social was a success as well! We had a great time catching up with everyone while talking over food and drinks at Yard House. MISA looks forward to seeing you at our next events.

Last Saturday MISA had the chance to get together and help Boca Helping Hands feed less fortunate members of the community with either a lunch or a bag of groceries for the week.

Mid-Semester BBQ

As always, the MISA BBQ was one of the most popular events of the semester. MISA members, alumni and faculty enjoyed a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Spanish River Park and networked over BBQ refreshment, volleyball tournaments, poker games, and a quick walk to the beach. We couldn't have asked for a better turnout, thank you to all who attended.

MISA Fall Social 2015

We came, we saw, we celebrated!  Our final event of the semester was a rousing success with much enjoyment celebrated by current MISA members, current graduating MISA members, and past alumni MISA members.  If you missed our last MISA event for 2015 don't worry there will be plenty more events in 2016!

The MISA BBQ was a success! Alumni, faculty, and students showed up to enjoy the cooler weather, play an intense volleyball game, and feast on all the food. MISA President, Jessica, brought her world famous guacamole and it was the first to go. MISA members spent the afternoon grilling burgers, hot dogs, and chicken for everyone to share.  This was a great time to socialize and relax after midterm exams.

Daniel Cane, Modernizing Medicine's CEO, personally took MISA members on a company tour this morning, and enthusiastically discussed their culture and evolution as a company. We learned that innovation, ingenuity, and growth are key features in building a successful specialized electronic healthcare records (EHR) software company. A panel of current Modernizing Medicine employees (including two FAU MIS alumni) discussed what it takes to work for such a fast paced company and what career opportunities are available. We ended with lunch with Modernizing Medicine employees, and reflected on this amazing opportunity. If you didn’t make it, we hope you’ll join us at future opportunities like this!

MISA Social Event:

Monster Mini Golf

Deloitte Practitioner Panel

Part of working in the technology industry is being able to adapt and improvise when things don't go according to plan. Our members got a taste of what that entails when delays arose at LaserQuest, the original location for this social event. Instead, we decided to hold our event at Monster Mini Golf in Coral Springs. Our members ended up having a blast relaxing, playing arcade games, and enjoying glow-in-the-dark mini golf.

Well-known financial consulting firm Deloitte held a practitioner panel hosted by MISA. The panel was immensely successful and gave a glimpse into a day in the life of a Deloitte Solutions Developer. Students were also givien valuable insight into what careers in the IT field at Deloitte look like.

MISA FAU vs. UM Tailgate

AON Hewitt Information Session

To show our school spirit, MISA hosted an official tailage at the much-antisipated FAU vs. UM game. The tailgate was a blast, and our members came out with all of their Owl spirit! It was great to have students from all majors hang out and enjoy game day.

MISA was fortunate enough to host an information session held by AON Hewitt's cloud solutions team. The team spent the evening discussing their work life balance, charitable events, and the main system they work with: WorkDay. AON went on to describe their company culture and opportunities, such as Launch, their 12 month technical paid training program for graduates.

MISA Fall Semester Kickoff

Sponsored by 4IT

MISA Information Session

This semester, our kickoff social event was graciously sponsored by 4IT, an IT-consulting company that focuses on fostering a positive and deeply integrated relationship with its clients. MISA members got a wonderful chance to network with 4IT's top staff, including their President Alexander Freund and CEO Raymond Mobayed.

Our first event of the Fall 2015 Semester was the MISA Information Session, where interested students were able to come and learn about MISA and what we do as an organization.
